RHONY’s Erin and Abe Lichy Talk Acid and Dishwasher Foreplay on Their Debut Podcast
Here’s what we learned from Erin and Abe’s delightfully candid first episode:
1. Their sex life has ups and downs (just like yours)
“When you’re married for so long or you’re in a relationship, a long-term relationship, [there are] the ebbs and flows and the rollercoaster that is sex life,” Erin admits right off the bat. Abe puts it more bluntly: “You’re not going to be fucking all the time, and that’s okay.” They talk openly about how they went from spontaneous sex and naps after brunch in their 20s, to fighting over dishes and losing interest entirely during tough times. “We had no money. We were really a mess,” Erin recalls about the period after their second child. “And we naturally took it out on each other.” But they’ve managed to keep the spark alive by embracing the reality of long-term relationships and life after kids. As Erin puts it, “Sometimes it’s going to be amazing. Sometimes it’s going to be, you know… whatever.”
2. Psychedelics played a role in their relationship
Yes, you read that right. Erin and Abe drop the mic (and our jaws) when they reveal that LSD changed their lives. Literally. “We were at Jazz Fest… tripping on acid,” Erin shares. Abe chimes in: “You looked at me and said, ‘It’s okay.’ And I quit my job.” That one drug-fueled music festival weekend not only led Abe to leave his high-paying law firm gig, it also led them to lose all their money in a handbag business. Erin calls it a “very expensive MBA.” To be clear, they’re not encouraging drug use—but they are brutally honest about how those early wild days shaped them.
3. Parenthood didn’t end their party days—just adjusted them
Erin had her first baby at 27, which in Manhattan years is practically teen mom status. She recalls, “They called me teen mom. Nobody in the city was having kids at 27.” But she and Abe didn’t let go of their social lives completely. “We had a rave downstairs and we’d be like, ‘Let’s go look at the baby,’” Erin says, remembering one wild New Year’s in the Hamptons. Abe puts it perfectly: “Don’t sacrifice all your fun when you have kids. You’re still allowed to have fun. Frankly, I think it makes you a better parent.”
4. Physical intimacy means different things to them
Abe candidly admits that physical touch is his love language. “Sometimes I just want you to pet my head,” he tells Erin. She replies: “That’s literally the last thing I want to do.” But through trial, error, and more than a few dishwasher battles, they’ve found middle ground. When Erin finally loaded the dishwasher correctly (his words, not hers), Abe asks, “Then what happened after?” Erin, without missing a beat: “You got laid.” Moral of the story? Don’t underestimate the power of clean dishes.
5. Long-term love is about choosing each other again and again
Perhaps the episode’s most powerful takeaway is how they circle back to that unshakable gut feeling. “I always say this about relationships,” Erin says. “Either it’s there or it’s not from the very beginning.” Because of that core connection, they talk about surviving fights, failures, grief, and major life changes. “If you have that deep understanding, you can come back from the worst,” she says. Abe agrees: “There’s a trust.” Their podcast isn’t about perfection. It’s about messiness, missteps, and making it work. And despite the struggle, they clearly still enjoy each other’s company. In the highly produced world of reality TV spinoffs, that’s actually saying something.
